Recent Advances in Stabilizing Mode-Locked Quantum Dash Lasers at 1.55 mm

Abstract:

Quantum nanostructure-based mode-locked semiconductor lasers have attracted much attention in recent years due to their potential applications in various ?elds, including optical sampling, frequency comb generation, and telecommunications. A signi?cant work has been reported in the area of mode-locked semiconductor lasers. However, many open problems still exist and need to be addressed in depth, including stabilization of semiconductor mode-locked lasers. Better timing stability is essential to enhance the performance and broaden the applications of semiconductor mode-locked lasers.In this presentation, a series of experimental studies will be presented to enhance the stabilization of mode-locked quantum-dash lasers emitting at ~ 1.55 μm and operating at a 21 GHz repetition rate.


Biography

Haroon Asghar is currently working as a Senior Scientist at the National Center for Physics, Quaid-i-Azam University Campus, Islamabad, Pakistan. He completed his M.Sc. and M.Phil. degrees in Physics from Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan, in 2010 and 2012, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree in Physics from the Department of Physics/Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork, Ireland, in 2018. He has authored and co-authored more than 75 journal publications and delivered many invited and contributed talks at international and national conferences. His current research interests include the generation of ultra-short and ultra-fast optical pulses from semiconductor mode-locked and pulsed fiber lasers, for potential applications in telecommunications.
